1. Overview
For motor engineers, motor design often involves the interaction between the control system and the motor itself. In previous versions, this had to be done in Simplorer software, which not only increased corporate costs, but also required engineers to master the use of Simplorer software, as well as the simulation settings and simulation speed issues involving the three software. R17.0 takes these factors into full consideration and successfully implements direct collaborative simulation between Maxwell and Simulink .
R17.0 supports Matlab versions R2012b, R2013a, R2013b, R2014a, R2014b, and R2015a. In Maxwell, set the excitation of the winding to an external circuit so that you can use Simulink excitation. Maxwell can accept winding excitations such as voltage, current, and flux, and supports motion excitations such as speed, position, force, and torque. As for the supported Maxwell analysis types, they are all supported. When “everything is ready”, just follow the steps mentioned below to achieve co-simulation.
Step 1 Set the motor winding excitation as shown in Figure 1:
Figure 1 The winding is set to “External” in the red box
Step 2 Select “Steup Co-simulation with Simulink” in the “Excitation” menu to implement excitation using Simulink, as shown in Figure 2 below.

Step3 Click “Setup Co-Simulation with Simulink” as shown in Figure 3:

Step 4 In the interface “Edit Circuit” of Figure 3, you can see the opened Simulink circuit and settings as shown in Figure 4.

Step5 Click to add SIMULINK-IN and SIMULINK-OUT Links as shown below:
Figure 5 One-to-one correspondence between Maxwell and Simulink stimulus links
Step 6 After association, you can see Maxwell as shown in Figure 6:

Step7 Click Import Circuit in Figure 6 to load the circuit, as shown in Figure 7 below:

Step8 After the connection is completed, the motor simulation is performed according to the Maxwell process. The result is shown in Figure 8:

It can be seen that the Maxwell has always been concise and clear operation ideas, which is convenient for design engineers to use. What are you waiting for? Applicability is the hard truth!
